Another tough game for St. Vincents but the team were ready after some tough training and last weeks performance. Once again a few changes had to be made due to injuries and other commitments.

13. Anthony Maher for Rob Archer
14. Gary Bayley for Jason Doyle

Match Kicked off and within the first 3mins a quick over the top ball let Shamrock in with a one on one chance which they converted.              St. Vincents were shocked  but kept the heads up. Once again, Roy kept us in the game with a few saves and quick clearances, with this he picked up a heavy knock but fought on...

The team started to get into the groove even with the poor state of the pitch, Damien Mcmahon was applying himself in centre in the park and Jason was getting some joy down the left. With a quick few passes, Paul o' Callaghan broke through down the left and pulled across to Chris Mcgovern who duly headed it in but  only for the ref to disallow this to disputable offside. Few chances came and went before the whistle went for half time.

Geoff and Stuart were pleased with the effort but believed in the team to up it once again and push for the win. This had a big effect and the team decided to push up and make it a tighter game, with this St. Vincents were starting to win the 50/50s Paul o Callaghan and Jason were combining down the left to cause them such a problem they made a few changes.

Oppurtunity came after a quickly taken free-kick played Paul through on goal which was drilled into the bottom corner, Shamrock were rattled and St. Vincents pushed on for the winner. A few injuries once again led to a couple of changes  seeing Anthony Maher getting more game time and Gary Bayley making this seasons debut.

Unfortunately for St. Vincents, shamrock celtic's keeper came to the rescue as he made 3 saves in the dying 5minutes denying Justin, Jason & Paul.

Another draw but unbeaten in 2games and strong 90min performance.
Geoff announced MoM was:  Damien McMahon & Timmy Doona

St. Vincents have worked harder than ever in training and talked about team work and pride. Which seen this match played with all this elements and so much more.

                                       1. Roy Keating
   2. Liam Moloney   5. John Smyth    4. Jamie Wilson   3. Timmy Doona
11. Larry White    6. John Green     8. Paul O Callaghan     7. Ciaran Doyle
                              9. Justin Smyth  10. Shane Byrne

12. Pat Maher for Larry White
13. Damien McMahon for Shane Byrne
14. Anthony Maher for Ciaran Doyle

Another changed line up due to misunderstanding pre-match which influenced most of the first half.  St. Vincents never turned up for 35mins of this game in which Caradonagh could have put the game to bed. they scored first goal from another long cross ball which made it to back stick in which the player turned and smashed it in bottom corner. Larry White picked up an injury which seen Pat Maher come onto right hand side. Once Again St. Vincents had a penalty turned down when seemed very spot on. So first half came and Went but only 1 nil down still had a chance to make things right.

Geoff decided to change it up pushing Pat Maher upfront and Paul O C. on the left with Damien Mcmahon sitting in middle of park to gain control of the game. Which we did up the tempo commiting people forward but once again St.Vincents let down by a refs decision to give caradonagh a penalty when Roy won the ball when one on one with the player but they had gven penalty to everyone confusion. 2- 0 down St. Vincents never gave in and Caradonagh could see this which led to them being reduced to 10men after elbow on John Green.

Momentous Occasion was just about to happen, Anthony Maher was summoned from the bench to replace Ciaran Doyle.  Battled Cancer and now here he was Donning a blue jersey, slipped into CB with John Smyth and it was like he ws never away. St. VIncents  pushed and pushed then got rewarded when John Smyth went wide pushing on to full back slid Paul O Callaghan in which he duly drove straight towards goal and rolled it across goal in which Justin knocked it in.

2-1 and the momument was with St. Vincents stretching the wide and pushing up at every chance. Once again ref played a part when Caradonagh lost another player to second yellow, Vincents put everything into it and the second always looked like coming and did so with ball up to Pat Maher which he won and tapped it onto Justin seen him wrestling with defender with an oncoming keeper he poked the ball goalwards, keeper got a touch but couldnt stop it rolling goalwards then Paul oC. hit it injust to make sure.  2-2 all and went on to create a few more chances but couldnt find that 3rd with only a few mins left.

Losing trot came to anend and finally a performance St. Vincents could be proud of.

2010 a new year here for St. Vincents to makes it mark on the League.
St. Vincents played Crumlin Celtic in which a few previous games had seen them climb top of the table.

                                       1. Roy Keating
    2. Rob Archer    4. Jamie Wilson 5. John Smyth  3. Timmy Doona
7. Jason Doyle        6. Ryan Bonass 8. Pat Maher      11. Jason Maguire.
                          9. Justin Smyth   10. Paul o Callaghan

12. Damien McMahon For John Smyth
13. John Greene For Jason Maguire
14. Ciaran Doyle For Justin Smyth

First game in weeks but St. Vincents came out of the traps controlling the first 30mins moving the ball around and working as a team. Except for a few errors by players who seem to struggle with the pitch it was some of the best football they had played in a long time. Had a blatent penalty turned down we spurned a few more chances.

Jason was working well wit Paul o Call on the left causing all sorts of problems and Pat Maher was making an impact in midfield. But after a couple of misplaced passes and errors St. Vincents were nervous with 10mins to go till half time, Crumlin took advantage of this with a long cross to back post seen free man just knock it back across to see it go in.

Second half started the same nerves were on edge and internal arguing led to second goal conceded from Corner. St. Vincent took time to get back into game but failed to hit the target while doing all the pressing. Crumlin just soaked up the pressure and settled for the result.

Top of the table Clash, seen St. Vincents come against their toughest test of the season. They were an older team but had the know how to play the game and worked the st. Vincents for the 90mins which Roy Keating can be thanked for keeping the Score respectable.. But Lesson learnt hopefully St. Vincents will go on to apply the missing pieces to get back to winning ways

First game in weeks, was played on a bad pitch with fog taking centre stage of the game. Ref lost control of the which was a heated battle but St.Vincents ran out losers in a tough contest.

Sun was shining, full squad and everyone was in good form what could possibly go wrong.
A team we beat only 2 weeks ago 9-1 were the opponents again this week, after our first loss last week this was a chance to make amends.
Casual was the word of the day from moment we were changing to the final whistle.

Team Sheet:
  1. Donal Lowry
  2. Robert Archer
  3. John Smyth
  4. Jamie Wilson
  5. Bren Johnson
  6. John Green
  7. Liam Moloney – 1 goal
  8. Ryan Bonass
  9. Justin Smith – Man of the Match
  10. Paul O’Callaghan ©
  11. Pat Maher – 1 goal

Glenview had added a few players since last played them which seen them more organised and determined to get their first win but St. Vincent’s started well the well for first 15mins retaining the ball and trying to put a few passing moves together. While Pat Maher was causing problems for St. Vincent’s on the left, at the same time the back four was under pressure with no protection in front with Glenview’s quick ball out from defence.

0-0   Penalty : passing move out on the left led Pat into the box to skip away from 2 player only for them catch him in the penalty box. Ryan stepped up but unlucky just missed the top corner. After this were started to find a few holes in their defence but only for ref to spoil it by blowing his whistle every 2mins.

1-0   GOAL: Paul starting to make an impact in the game collected the ball down the left, he cut inside while getting to the by-line when he pulled it back only for their defender to knock it into their goal. Glenview’s heads never dropped but once again St. Vincent’s were on turning the screw but only in flashes…

2-0   GOAL: Corner came in from Jamie nicely floated in, it made its way to the back post in which Pat duly dispatched into the roof of the net, St. Vincent’s were cruising at this point or so they taught. Compliancy crept into their game while Glenview had changed their formation moving extra man back into to midfield which helped them out. Justin was put through one on one with goalkeeper clearly onside only for Ref to decide for some reason it was offside and on more than one occasion.

2-1   GOAL: Half time was closing in and St.Vincent's were asleep with a throw in on the right, Glenview sent it into the corner but we half cleared and let Glenview re-claim the ball easily and work the ball into the box without a proper challenge and the ball fell to their striker it was soft attempt but somehow squeezed in. then the whistle blew.

Disappointed and Angry, Geoff had given his thoughts of the game and didn’t hold back on how poor St. Vincent’s were when only a week ago we played some best football all season. Attitude was the problem as players were reminded we only won the first game against Glenview 9-1 cos we applied ourselves and fought for every ball.
Casual attitude had to change to hold onto this victory but it never came. As it turned to a shambles in the second half.

2-2   GOAL: 1min into second half Glenview raised their Tempo and fought for every ball while St. Vincent’s went missing all over the pitch. An over the top ball left their player through to slot it in to equalise and St. Vincent’s head went down and fingers were being pointed.

Geoff reacted and made some changed bringing on 2 subs while moving players around hoping to get a reaction but it was only short lived as they up the tempo but lost there composure and organisation on the pitch. The game was wide open and becoming stretched, in which would usually suit St. Vincent’s this time it was not to be.

3-2 GOAL: Against the run of play we got over the top and had their defenders turned with Justin hassling the defenders as he was all day it paid off when confusion with Glenview keeper and centre half led to the ball falling to the feet of Justin but unselfishly pulling the ball across to Liam who rolled it into an empty net.

Player Sent off: Glenview had a player sent off with his second yellow in which it was probably only thing the ref had gotten right. 1st yellow 2 footed tackle on John after the ball was already gone, 2nd Yellow on Liam in which had won the ball but went through Liam from behind to get it leaving the ref no option.

This should have eased the game for St. Vincent’s but let Glenview in time and time again with them still creating chances despite being down to 10 men. St. Vincent’s had created rare opportunities but Glenview were being clever and breaking up our play by consistent fouling.

3-3 GOAL:  St. Vincent’s had control of the game and tried to play there way out but got caught out on the ball at the back; Glenview broke with only 20yrds out but just scrambled the ball in……

4-3 GOAL: while trying to put on the pressure on the game and win the game ST. Vincent’s pushed up but the lack of communication at the back led Glenview players to being kept onside every the ball went over the top easily as there was no pressure in midfield. They got lucky getting the ball into the box, the sub was now 6yrds out with 2 defenders in front of him but he somehow got the ball in the back of the net with only 10mins ago… This was a team that won first game 9-1 and 4-0 up by half time.

Questions will be asked but all St. Vincent’s can do is get the winning the league out of their head, just apply themselves and take it game by game.

Man of the Match: Justin Smyth – Hassled the defence at all times not letting them settle while always making himself available and holding the ball up and bringing players into the game.
